Whether you are making your own wedding cake, having a dessert table, getting married in a tipi, having a number of single tiered wedding cakes or having doughnuts as favours, you have to think about how to display your sweet treats! And cake stands can be super expensive! So I am always looking for ides on how to get crafty and do it myself! So with the current trend of geometric and metallic all over wedding at the moment, I had make this DIY cake stand happen!
So I started looking at sourcing the parts I needed and it's dead easy! All you need is:
• a geometric shaped tealight holder
• a plate (preferably a flat one)
• superglue (one suitable for ceramic/metal)
• pliers and/or metal cutters.
You can get the tealight holders easily from homeware shops - they are everywhere at the moment, but I got mine from H&M Home as they were already metallic and meant I didn't need to spray them. They were pretty good quality for the price point starting at £4.99 and they do them in gold, copper and black. You can find them here.
Twist the metal spokes attaching the tealight holder to the frame until the holder snaps out. Its fairly easy to do, and you are just left with the geometric frame which will be the base of the cake stand.
I just love that speckled plate! Its gorgeous in real life too! And cheap to boot! Next up was to glue the frames to the bottom of the plates. I used UHU and left them to set for about an hour to be sure it had adhered. Try and get the frames positioned centrally on the plate. tealight as it needs to be in proportion with the plate. I got a number of different sizes and used stoneware plates again from H&M Home, and they can be found here.

And that's it! Super simple, super effective and super on trend! And the biggest one cost only about £15.00 - absolute bargain! Don't forget to sign up to the H&M Club to get first purchase discounts and free delivery. I was super impressed with the delivery and packaging - everything arrived perfectly. By the way, I am in no way sponsored by H&M but am just really happy with the products and service I received.
Let me know if you give it a go, I would love to see your results!
